This evening started like any other ordinary night.
My family was at home when, without warning, the electricity suddenly went out. The entire house became quiet and dark within seconds. The lights disappeared, the appliances stopped humming, and for a moment, everyone just stood there trying to figure out what had happened.
Fortunately, I keep a few candles around the house for situations like this.
I remembered that I had stored some of them in a small box underneath my son’s bed, so I grabbed a flashlight and went upstairs to get them.
I wasn’t expecting to find anything unusual.
My son’s room was completely dark, and I had to carefully move around a few toys and books that had been left on the floor. I knelt beside the bed, reached underneath it, and began feeling around for the box.
That’s when my hand touched something I didn’t recognize.
At first, I assumed it was one of my son’s toys.
He has a habit of collecting all sorts of little objects, and occasionally I discover things in the most unexpected places. So I didn’t think much of it.
I reached farther underneath the bed and pulled the object toward me.

The funny thing is that if the electricity hadn’t gone out tonight, I probably never would have found it.
I would have gone through the evening as usual, never thinking about what was sitting underneath my son’s bed.
